Well, we made it.
As this undeniably strange year comes to a close, I am extremely proud of the work I have put into my growth as a student in my final months at Galloway. Despite the bizarre and unfortunate circumstances, my peers and I have managed to finish our senior year on a strong note, and this is of course most evident in our final Capstone projects. The completion of this extensive, year-long endeavor in the midst of the chaos, uncertainty, and isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic is truly a testament to our resilience and academic capabilities, both as individuals and as a graduating class.
Of course, while finishing this project mid-quarantine would ultimately prove to be rewarding, it certainly introduced a plethora of additional challenges throughout the process. Logistics and personal motivation were without a doubt the two biggest obstacles for me personally, and since completing such a project during such complicated times had previously been entirely uncharted territory, I often felt a bit overwhelmed by it all. However, battling through these hurdles proved to me that I do not need to surrender to the intimidation of social distancing; it may offer a unique set of challenges, but I can still accomplish anything with enough perseverance.
That sentiment reflects a particular area of personal growth that I have been working on all year, even before the pandemic: confidence. I have become more confident in my work, my thinking, my judgement, and my ability to advocate for myself. And without that kind of self-confidence, this project would not have been possible.
I hope you enjoy what I've put together, and above all else, I hope my work serves as a reminder of how important it is to laugh, especially in the strange, strange year of 2020.
